LUCAS VALLEY ELEMENTARY
Art, Linsey Larimore
Hello! I am a firm believer in the arts being a critical part of education to allow students to better express themselves, think critically, and become creative problem solvers. It is so great to be in a school district that really appreciates the value of art education! I got my undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Colorado, Boulder. After college, I lived in Aspen, CO where I taught for the first time and decided that education was my calling. I got my teaching credential at San Francisco State and worked for 6 years as a Spanish-bilingual teacher in the mission district of San Francisco. During that time, I also got a master’s in education with an art focus and a teaching credential in art. In 2009, I specialized in art education and even started my own art education business in 2015. On a personal level, I grew up in Santa Rosa, CA and was inspired to get into art by my grandmother and mom, who are watercolor artists. Growing up I spent most of my time involved in sports, traveling, and trying out new art forms, of which ceramics and printmaking became my favorites. In 2009, my husband Kevin and I got married and a few years later we started a family. We have 2 daughters, Zoey and Quinn, and we currently live in Petaluma.
TK-2 Music and Movement, Amanda Morando
Ms. Amanda teaches both TK – 2nd Music & Movement as well as Drama to 3rd – 5th grade at Dixie Elementary. She also teaches Drama at Vallecito Elementary. She has been teaching music to children in many different capacities since finishing her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from UCSB in 2010. In addition to teaching here, she teaches at weekly Acting and Broadway classes and directs children’s musicals at Rhythms Performing Arts. She enjoys seeing that spark of excitement in her students for music and singing that she had when she was there age - she remembers her elementary school music teacher fondly.
Physical Education, Alexander Wahl
Hello, my name is Alex Wahl. Born and raised in Marin County, I attended K-8 at Gallinas School (now known as Venetia Valley), Terra Linda High School, and College of Marin. I graduated with a B.A. in Portuguese from UCLA in 2017. For the past 8 years, I have worked with kids in a variety of capacities. I organized and lead sports activities at a daycare while also volunteering as an assistant coach for Terra Linda High’s wrestling program. While living in Los Angeles, I worked as a summer camp counselor and a children's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor. Through all these experiences, I have discovered the importance of physical activity and healthy competition for students to develop life skills such as confidence, focus, teamwork, and quality sportsmanship. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to teach the students of Dixie Elementary as the P.E. teacher.
Garden Green Leader, Kalei Colridge
I am very excited to be the garden specialist for Dixie Elementary School. I was born in Hawaii but grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. I love sharing my native roots and love for gardening with your kids! I am educated in the fields of biology, botany, agriculture and teaching. My passion for gardening allows me to tap into my formal education bringing it all together to help kids make real connections between the garden and all other areas of learning they are exposed to on a daily basis (I adore poetry and throw some of that in there too). I believe that hands on learning, outdoor learning, and garden planning allow students to incorporate real world experiences into the formal learning environment, resulting in a well-rounded and sensible student. In my personal life I love being with my family, my kids and our dog, cooking, running and surfing!

Art TK-5th, Mr. James Newman
James Newman is a Northern California-based artist who has exhibited his work in the Bay Area and the Southwest. His collection incorporates color, texture and broad brushstrokes, using abstract oils on canvas. James' artwork is highly influenced by his family. James has three children, ages 16, 14, and 9. He has always participated in their art classes, this includes volunteering, providing workshops, seminars and group projects. When his oldest son was young, James used to draw simple pictures upside down to demonstrate objects and ideas for him as they sat across the table from each other. This use of uninhibited perspective and playful philosophy, combined with an unintentional focus on the process, rather than the finished product, enabled James to explore his own unique creativity. James is very excited to bring his energy and abilities to the Vallecito Elementary School community.
